The options are plenty, the choice is yours. Within 15 minutes of Huntingdon Grange you’ll find many high quality golf courses including the renowned Clearwater Resort, home to the NZPGA Championship, and The Russley. Nearby, enjoy the country clubs of Tai Tapu & Lincoln. A pleasant scenic drive takes you to the greens of Terrace Downs, set in the foothills below Mt Hutt Ski Area.

Hot air balloon adventures
Gently lift off in a hot air balloon for outstanding panoramas of the Canterbury Plains, Christchurch city, harbour, hills and spectacular Southern Alps. Several operators offer options depending on weather conditions and your budget, both easily accessible from Huntingdon Grange.

Hanmer Springs - soak in natural hot pools
Whether you are soaking in the hot pools, or blasting the mountainbike track... or just strolling through the forest, there's options here for everyone all year round. Just 1½ hours from Christchurch, it's an easy drive, or take the shuttle - works as a day trip, or there are plenty of overnight options.

Ski your heart out
Within 2 hours drive there are a number of ski areas offering you terrain for all levels of skier or boarder, including internationally renowned Mt Hutt, Porter Heights as well as several intimate club fields. Take your car or take the easy mountain shuttles. Equipment rental and lessons available.

Swim with the dolphins
Why view them from a distance when you can get in and swim amongst them? At Akaroa take a nature cruise around the harbour out to the heads and spend the time of your life swimming with the amazing Hector’s dolphins, the smallest and rarest dolphins in the world.

Akaroa, just an hour away
This quaint historic French colonial settlement is just an hour’s scenic drive from Huntingdon Grange. Stop at The Little River Gallery and Café for morning tea before you ascend the ancient volcanic hills for magnificent views of the drowned crater harbour. Descend to Barry’s Bay with its boutique cheese factory Arriving in Akaroa, the main street is lined with cafes and specialty shops nestled on the edge of the water, with the hills behind offering plenty of nature trails for those keen for some exercise. On the opposite side of the harbour is French Farm Winery, another great option for lunch.

Kaikoura, home of the whales
Just 2.5 hours drive north of Huntingdon Grange is Kaikoura and the opportunity to see giant sperm whales as they surface. Join a Whale Watch cruise and see these giants up close. You are likely to see dolphins, and a range of sea birds including albatross. You’ll also see seals swimming or basking on the rocks of the rugged Pacific coastline. A dolphin swimming is also available here option. Savour the local delicacy of crayfish (lobster) from roadside kiosks along the way or dine on locally caught fresh fish in the local cafes.

Visit the Antarctic
Located just next to the airport and only 15 mins from Huntingdon Grange is the International Antarctic Centre. This is one of New Zealand’s best visitor attractions and gives you a real insight into life and conditions in the Antarctic wilderness. Feel what an Antarctic storm is like, take a ride in the snow terrain Haaglund vehicles used to transport people on the ice and visit the penguin enclosure. This is a must see attraction so easily accessible from your Huntingdon Grange homestay!

Orana Park
Experience the ultimate animal adventure at Orana Wildlife Park, New Zealand's only open range zoo. Set on 80 hectares of park-like grounds, Orana Park offers a range of animal encounters. Hand feed giraffe, meet rhino up close, see NZ Kea in a massive aviary and experience the awesome Lion encounter.

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve
Close encounters of the wildlife kind are a Willowbank trademark. Get to know New Zealand's national icon, the kiwi, with no glass barrier. See also the ancient tuatara, the cheeky kea and the rare takahe and kaka. Enjoy New Zealand culture and cuisine surrounded by enchanting wildlife and magical views.

Air Force Museum
Take a fascinating look at the Royal New Zealand Air Force from its inception to modern day. The Museum brings this rich history to life. With many intriguing exhibits and over 28 aircraft on display, Air Force Museum is a must see. View wartime newsreel films or experience the 1940's Mosquito flight simulator. Open every day except Christmas Day.

Little River Bike Trail
The Little River Rail Trail begins in the Christchurch suburb of Hornby and flanks the shores of Lake Ellesmere and Lake Forsyth to end in the township of Little River. Take your time and enjoy the stunning landscapes on this 49km trail comprising of both on and off road cycling. We are located just off of the rail trail so ideal for those who want to stop off for the night.
